Summer House Recap Season 7, Episode 11

summer house recap

In this week’s episode, titled “The Parent Trap,” Danielle makes Gabby cry and refuses to apologize. Carl tells Kyle that Lindsay wants him to “hustle” and make money, so she can be a stay-at-home mom, something they hadn’t previously talked about. Carl admits to his mom and stepdad that he’s afraid of Lindsay’s temper, and Carl’s stepdad advises him to reconsider getting married right now. Here are some of the highlights from Summer House Season 8, Episode 10.

Lindsay and Carl: Communication Breakdown (Summer House Full Recap‪)‬

Lindsay says, “You love a fucking pity party.” Lindsay can’t read the room, and she can’t even read a Carl. But we have seen this fight with Lindsay many times. This is the same one she had with her ex Everett (congrats on the wedding) in which she said she would sleep in another guy’s bed. This is the same as when she asked Stravy (ugh) how many sandwiches he made for her. This is how Lindsay rolls, and it will always be part of her. While the fight is the same, Carl reacts quite differently.

Lindsay wears white — or maybe it’s cream

Welcome back for our Summer House Season 8, Episode 3 recap! And even though Carl and Lindsay make up following their big fight, everyone but Carl and Lindsay can see the gigantic red flags waving. Here are some of the highlights from Summer House Season 8, Episode 3. “You have to have sex,” Lindsay elaborates. Super cringe that she’s even talking about that. What if memory care came wrapped in a place as warm and bright as a cherished summer home?

summer house recap

Carl Radke Shares His Parents' Concerns with Lindsay Hubbard: "Why Are They Rushing to Get Married?"

She does deserve some consideration in Lindsay’s romantic happiness since she got her through so much of her romantic tumult. Carl, who is mostly blameless in this scenario, says that he loves Danielle and that she has seen him at his worst and always been there for him. He wants to make it better, but her reaction also hurts him and Lindsay, so maybe everyone just needs some time.

Summer jumped in and began calling her out. Come to find out … Noelle didn’t understand the rules of the game. After they explained to her that she was supposed to state experiences she’d never had, they were ready to get going. However, Summer was still stuck on her initial comment. In addition to Simon and Preston’s boyfriend, Donald, visiting the house for a few days, Amir’s girlfriend, Natalie, also joined. Based on many of the women’s reactions, they weren’t too fond of her being in the mix for a few days.

Kyle Cooke

It was one heck of an episode, with each and every singer bringing his or her A-game -- not a single real stumble, making this contest anyone’s to win. Mealtime is an important part of the day for memory loss sufferers. As the Hamptons crew got together to celebrate Kyle Cooke’s milestone 40th birthday, they welcomed weekend guests (and Winter House–mates) Jason Cameron, Rachel Clark, and Luke Gulbranson.

Summer House Season 7 premieres on Monday, February 13, at 9/8c. Each week the episode will stream the next day on Peacock. Mya Allen, Amanda Batula, Kyle Cooke, Paige DeSorbo, Lindsay Hubbard, Ciara Miller, Danielle Olivera, and Carl Radke are all returning. The housemates are joined by new friends Samantha Feher, Chris Leoni, and Gabby Prescod, as well as old friends Andrea Denver and Kory Keefer. From friendship breakdowns to relationship evolutions, here are all the burning questions we have about the new season of Summer House. “We’re gonna be the best mom and dad ever,” Amanda said, and Kyle agreed — though he wants to buy a house before they start their family.

After violent night at UCLA, classes cancelled, UC president launches investigation into response

However, sparks did fly when the two met in person for the first time, as Gabby admitted. “Cosmically, maybe my love potion is working,” she joked. I can see who wears the pants in this family. “So, I’m more comfortable personally if there’s, like, a plan,” she adds. “Coming into the house, I wasn’t looking for, really, anything,” West interviews. “I just wanted to see what was gonna happen.

Summer blows up on Bria … and the house

You know, when he, Amanda Batula, Lindsay Hubbard, Carl Radke, and Danielle Olivera were mostly friends and the remaining housemates didn’t exist in the Bravoverse yet. It’s another go-round on the road to ruin for Danielle and Lindsay, whose problems seem as though they would be fixed easily, but something is getting in the way. (Is it the show? There were some alarm bells with me when Chris asked Kory if he’d be sticking around, and he said, “We’ll see.” Is this just a showmance?) The episode ends in a great way, though. After the fight and bonfire, everyone was up in Ciara and Paige’s room having an impromptu bedroom dance party. Lindsay and Carl were making out on their bed and decided to join the rest of the group.

Summer House offers a unique setting within a larger Claremont senior living community. This means memory loss residents receive the 24-hour monitoring and special care they need, without feeling the isolation that comes with living in a facility only for those with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Our Claremont Alzheimer’s care facility does not enforce strict visiting hours like you’ll find at other memory care homes. At our Claremont Alzheimer’s care facility, memory care residents are treated as individuals, and as every individual is unique, the care we provide is equally personalized. Through customized care, we’re able to help residents blossom in their own way. To hold on to a sense of who they are even as their memories fade.

Shall we just sit in the next room, like Amanda and Paige, listening at the door to the fighting? Shall we get a can of olives and eat them right out of their own brine with a spoon while everyone fights in the yard again? Yes, we shall, because that is what we’re here for.

He doesn’t get angry like Everett; he doesn’t get dismissive like Stravy. He remains calm and patient and tries to talk Lindsay down until he can’t anymore. I don’t think she’s right to do any of this, but Carl seems to have what it takes to navigate this, even if it will never be enough for an endless maw of needs like Lindsay’s.

Kyle and Amanda have some growing up to do. If they can get through this, they’ll be stronger in the end. But this is where a lot of people give up and get divorced. We get several snippets of their drama, and it’s only a matter of time before we can get a deeper inside look at what caused these two pals to fall out and into such tension.

Moreover, it’s essential to recognize that older Corvettes are appreciating in value rapidly, primarily due to the soaring demand for used cars. Consequently, many are turning to the used car market, where used vehicles often command prices higher than their new counterparts. This shift has proven advantageous for those with an extra car or those willing to part with their first one.

When the 1978 Indy 500 Pace Car came out as a celebration of Corvette’s 25th anniversary, the car created an unbelievable uproar and insane speculation. Chevy skipped Corvette’s 30th anniversary because there were no production Corvettes in 1983. Early C3 427s and LT1 Corvettes get all the attention these days as the “must-have” Vettes. But we’re looking at “affordable” driver Corvettes here. The classic, chrome-bumper Mako Shark-themed Corvette is still highly desired. Yes, it’s a bargain compared to some of the offerings from Porsche that are close to and above $200,000, but still!

If you are looking to get into an older, classic-type Corvette without the nose-bleed prices, look for “drivers.” Corvettes that might be a wee bit tired but driven regularly. We hope that this article has served as your compass to finding the best Corvette to buy in 2023. We’ve uncovered some hidden gems—low-cost Corvettes that are underappreciated, undervalued, and fit any budget. However, it’s worth noting that prices in the Corvette market are on the rise. Scuttlebutt has it that the 330-horsepower rating on the LT4 was bogus.

Each was premium-priced Corvettes for that year. They were chock-full of goodies and creature comforts, but none had any performance enhancements; then factor in their late C3 and C4 status, and many go ignored. So, be very careful about the “allure” (think “fishing lures) of the “low-mileage” Corvette.

Hardtop C5 Corvettes also have the status of being the platform that was used to create the Z06 Corvette. In 1972 the same LT1’s “net” rating was 255-hp, an apparent 75-horsepower drop, but attributed to the difference in measurement parameters. So, what would be the “gross” rating of the C4’s 330-hp LT4? Somewhere around 427 horsepower, IF the 330-hp was correct, or 478-hp if the rumored 370-hp was correct! That’s why you should look for an LT4 for your ’96 Corvette. Back in the day, Corvettes could be anything from very mild to wild.

Improve the intake and exhaust, install a stiffer cam, and a few other goodies, and you can blow past the C6 Z horsepower level. These cars have all the pluses of the before-mentioned C5, plus an overall stiffer, more rigid structure. This is thanks to the bonded and bolted-on hardtop roof.

It means you can get into the Corvette community without spending big bucks. The car came with a performance cam and long-tube headers. Today, the car is pretty much done, packs as much power as a C6 Z06, and is beautiful! TrueCar does not broker, sell, or lease motor vehicles.

If you follow the unfolding saga of Chevrolet’s latest, greatest wonder Corvette, the 2023 Z06, the prices are eye-popping! It’s very easy, after adding the top-level interior and extra goodies, to be looking at a $130,000-plus on the new Corvettes. Are you looking to buy a Corvette on a budget? The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has a starting price of $106,395, but let’s face it, that isn’t in everyone’s budget.

So, it would be best to consider a few things when seeing a 30-year-old Corvette with very low mileage.

The all-new LS1 base engine was rated at 345 horsepower, but when locked into the C5’s vastly improved structure, it did everything better. And it didn’t take long for buyers to discover that the all-new engine had LOTS of red meat that was not hard to extract from the LS1. Challenge Corvettes didn’t have much power, perhaps slightly more than the advertised 245-horsepower. But anyone that ever drove or owned one can tell you that they are hot, dirty, rough, harsh, smelly race cars.

The base engine for the 1962-to-1965 was the 250-horse 327. If you ordered one with the 2-speed Powerglide transmission, it was a nice secretary Vette. The C5 sports car was a great platform and indeed revolutionary, and the newer cars just kept getting better and better. But that doesn’t mean the early C5s are bad, far from it.

Preservation

pope leighey house

In the Spring of 2024, all exterior wood will be cleaned and re-treated to give the house a uniform appearance. In recent years, it became apparent that it was time to evaluate the current state of the building's roof, identify any issues, and work to address them in order to ensure the home’s stability. Today, our staff is dedicated to telling a more complete version of Woodlawn’s history and partnering with our community to steward the land and these historic buildings for future generations. Subsequent owners of Woodlawn mansion, attracted by romanticized ideas of the antebellum South, repaired and preserved the home for their own uses.

Pick a Tour

Thanks to the unified efforts of those dedicated to saving the home, it was sold to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, who still maintains ownership today. The house has seen many conservation projects happen over nearly six decades, and it is our goal to increase the scale of overall preservation efforts throughout the site. A new roof is a necessity to continue to preserve Frank Lloyd Wright’s Pope-Leighey House. Nearby Interstate Route 66 runs from western Virginia east to Washington, D.C. When plans were made to expand Highway 66, the Pope-Leighey house was directly in the path of the expansion and was likely slated for demolition. Mrs. Leighey chose to save the structure and gave the property to the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

More Than Meets the Eye: Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House

Since 1949, Woodlawn and the surrounding 126 acres have been operated as an historic house museum, coming under the ownership of the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1957. During the 1930s, Frank Lloyd Wright set his formidable attention towards designing affordable middle-class residences. More than 100 of these modest homes, referred to as Usonian, thought to mean "the United States of North America," were constructed between 1936 and Wright's death in 1959, including the Pope-Leighey house (1940). Commissioned in 1939 by journalist Loren Pope and his wife Charlotte Pope, the Pope–Leighey House was one of the first Usonian houses designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Plan Your Trip

Wright, who liked to be involved at every step of the process, visited the site of construction several times. Frank Lloyd Wright’s connection to Arizona, the location of his personal winter home Taliesin West, runs deep, with his architectural influence seen all over the Valley. Here, PhD student David R. Richardson gives a brief overview of several of Wright’s most notable projects in the Grand Canyon state.

Style

When seeking out modern materials for the roof, it was decided that using a fluid-applied waterproof membrane with a broadcast sand aggregate would be the best approximation to the look to Wright's original “wearcoat” material. This new location would guarantee future longevity and provide access for visitors to experience one of Wright's earliest Usonian homes for themselves. In 1965, the house was relocated to the grounds of Woodlawn Plantation, removing it from the path of a highway project. Located just outside Washington, D.C., the Pope-Leighey House and Woodlawn Plantation share a 126-acre estate that was originally part of George Washington’s Mount Vernon. The brick and wood used throughout the house are not painted but rather treated with clear wax, which accentuates their natural qualities.[4] The floor is Cherokee Red, one of Wright's signature colors. The Pope–Leighey House, formerly known as the Loren Pope Residence, is a suburban home in Virginia designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Wright was considered a master of tying the house to the environment, something that he liked to call "organic architecture." Fifteen years later in 1961, the Leigheys received news that the house would be condemned due to the construction of I-66 along the corridor where it was located. In 1995, the house was relocated a second time because of an unstable foundation to a place 30-feet away from its original spot at Woodlawn. Frank Lloyd Wright is widely regarded as one of the greatest architects in American history, and perhaps one of the most creative home designers of all time. Pennsylvania is home to a collection of so-called “Usonian” homes that demonstrates Wright’s eschewing of the conventional building styles of his time. An impassioned letter to Wright from the original owner of this home, Loren Pope, is where the story of this small wonder begins.

The flat roof with a cantilevered carport, heated concrete floor slab and uniform treatment of the interior and exterior walls are features consistent with other Usonian designs. In 1963, the structure sat in the path of a highway expansion project and faced demolition. It was donated by the then-owner to the National Trust for Historic Preservation and, in 1965, moved 15 miles away to Woodlawn, which was originally part of George Washington’s Mount Vernon. In 1995, due to the instability of the clay soil, the house had to be moved 30 feet uphill, where it still stands today. As a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, we believe all Americans deserve to see their history in the places that surround us.

pope leighey house

Also on the site is the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Pope-Leighey House where visitors can explore and be inspired by the Usonian architecture and a vision for affordable, well-designed housing. We share the land with our partner Arcadia Farm for Sustainable Agriculture, whose mission is to create a more equitable and sustainable local food system. We also provide activities throughout the grounds and trails for learning, wellbeing, respite, and enjoyment of the natural environment and its history. His interest in progressive reform aligned with the belief within modernism that architecture could and should have an impact on social issues. Architecture was viewed as a mechanism for promoting progressive beliefs, motivated in part by pushback against corporate growth and landlordism. This principle is demonstrated at the Pope–Leighey House in the attention Wright paid to every component of the Popes' life there, down to the appliances, furniture, and decor.

Originally built for Loren and Charlotte Pope, this Usonian Style home was sold to Robert and Marjorie Leighey in 1946. Following the death of her husband, Marjorie Leighey fought to save the home from demolition when Interstate-66’s impending construction was slated to cut directly through its original location. Led by her passion for the home, and with the help of the Department of the Interior, Virigina’s Governor Albertis S. Harrison, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the home was saved. The home was dismantled and moved 20 miles south to Woodlawn Plantation, the National Trust Historic Site in Alexandria, Virginia, where Leighey could enjoy lifetime tenancy.

The Pope-Leighey House, named for its only previous owners, is modest in size at only 1,200 square feet. Bounded by the humble budget of the Pope family, who commissioned the house from Wright in 1939, this structure nonetheless exhibits the distinct features characteristic of his formidable vision and style. The architectural element of compression and release, the cantilevered roofs, and the windows that open to the outside create an immediate interaction with the surrounding landscape. They also create a sensation of spaciousness and allow plenty of sunlight into the home. This house seems to reach far beyond its square footage and exudes the cleverness and comfort of true mid-century design. The heated concrete floors are one in a series of surprises I encounter during my visit to Pope-Leighey House, dedicated as a National Trust Historic Site in 1965.

However, after the old roofing and flashing were removed, substantial areas of water damage and rot were discovered within the roof structure, including some significant structural damage. Additionally, several wood fascia boards were found to be severely deteriorated, necessitating their replacement. Following additional structural assessment and planning, areas of roof framing were either reinforced or replaced entirely, adding significant time and cost to the project.

The work was completed by the summer of 2015, and it cost the National Trust a grand total of $13,000, thanks to the volunteer labor and a $10,000 donation to Woodlawn from the Jessie Ball duPont Fund. The hope now, Wilson says, is that her team’s research can be replicated at other Frank Lloyd Wright sites with wood siding. The wood conservation project started in 2011, when Jablonski Building Conservation completed a building assessment and treatment report. (That work was funded by a grant from the federal Save America’s Treasures program.) Years of deferred maintenance had left the wood looking worn and dull.

Experts reached a solution that cleans and protects the siding from biological growth and UV rays, yet some of the weathering will remain. Narrow wood Dutchman, small wood-grafts used to repair cracked and damaged wood, were also completed to provide a more stable exterior skin. In 2023, we are currently working on a project to repair the roof at Pope-Leighey House. This work will also return the home’s exterior to what would have been Frank Lloyd Wright’s original design.

As highway bulldozers aimed Route 66 at Marjorie’s property, the team of preservationists scrambled to devise a rescue campaign. Unfortunately, for all its marvel and wonder, the house could not protect the Popes from tragedy. In the later days of the spring they moved in, baby Ned embraced his newfound knack for walking. He roamed the nearby woods with his friend, a little girl who lived next door. With the innocent curiosity of any young child, “his attention had been attracted by the ducks in the pond” and he waddled into the water.[29] Although not very deep, the boy drowned before his parents could reach him.

This site is not affiliated with any official Frank Lloyd Wright organizations/properties or the trust/non-profits that operate them. In the meantime, Oak Grove Restoration, based in Laytonsville, Maryland, inserted Dutchmen (narrow wood slivers) into gaps where the wood was cracked or damaged, which helped to stabilize the siding. Still, the exterior wood—tidewater red cypress that Wright chose for its durability, density, consistent color, and termite-resistant oils—is almost all original. On the short walk from the front door to the living room, I pass a set of closet doors, and later a wall of cabinets in the small hallway outside the bath. Their hinges are barely visible, and the entryway closets don’t have doorknobs, so they blend in with the walls. The new low profile copper drip edge flashing compared with the original (oxidized) copper gravel stop.

CURRENT PROJECTS: POPE-LEIGHEY HOUSE’S NEW ROOF

The National Trust has preserved the house as it was intended to be lived in, complete with original decor and furniture, so visitors to the house today can see Wright's Usonian vision. This hand-sewn petticoat with fine embroidered detail is attributed to an enslaved seamstress named Sarah, from Charleston, SC. Objects like this convey the level of skill and craftsmanship that enslaved workers produced for their enslavers. 1840, Collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. “It’s been jimmied with a lot, but I think that’s part of its preservation story,” says Wilson. On July 30, 1964, Marjorie Leighey formally transferred the house to the National Trust, retaining the right to live there for the rest of her life.

Futaba Cake Building

The new Woodlawn site, while similar to the Falls Church location in being wooded, has differences; the original orientation was east-west, not the present north-south. The recent restoration, however, allows the house to be approached as it was originally, from below. The original interior cypress has been maintained along with most fixtures and furniture. The brick is a replacement, and although the house still has a radiantheated floor (not the original concrete pad!), it also has 1990s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. The Pope-Leighey House was one of Wright’s first Usonian designs, and can be immediately recognized as such through its distinct style. Wright used the architectural elements of compression and release, cantilevered roofs, and the large windows that let the outside in, and used cypress boards that were inexpensive and easy to source because the Florida Everglades were being drained at the time.

And on June 8, Wright’s actual day of birth, there will be a big picnic at the site. During this second move, other changes were made to the home, including a complete reconstruction of the roof. As seen in the original image of the house in its Falls Church location, there is a clean roofline devoid of visible flashing. As part of the roof work in 1995, gravel was installed on the roof to weigh down the new roofing system, requiring the installation of a sizeable gravel stop edge flashing. During this time, Quakers sold parcels of land to other antislavery farmers and members of the local free Black population. These communities of Quakers and free Black people thrived here into the early 20th century.

Visitors enjoy tours by the National Trust, which exhibits thought-provoking contemporary art in the Usonian home.[63] No doubt Marjorie Leighey would delight in hearing that her beloved home lives on to influence new generations. “The day we left,” Loren Pope confessed, “I sat on the fireplace hob and wept."[32] The Leigheys moved in February 1947. It was also in the ‘30s that two such average Americans would spark an exceptional chain of events in the national capital region. The name Frank Lloyd Wright may bring to mind New York City’s Guggenheim Museum, residences in Chicago, the Midwest, and deserts of Arizona. He built iconic modern structures all over the country; even Northern Virginia can boast a unique connection to the renowned American architect.

Construction began in 1940.[3] Wright chose his apprentice of two years, Gordon Chadwick, as the general contractor who would oversee construction of the home.

The historical core of the site also now boasts a modern demonstration and educational farm powered by partner Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture (who also operate a working farm on another area of the property). In 1846, a group of anti-slavery Quaker families from the north purchased the property and sold off parcels of Woodlawn’s land to free Black and other anti-slavery farmers who set up homesteads on the land. Woodlawn became an example of successful free-labor agriculture in a region that was dependent on enslaved labor. Subsequent owners of Woodlawn, helped to preserve the house into the twentieth century. In the past years, preservation work at the Pope-Leighey House was focused on the exterior cypress.

Tour Information

Today, the Pope-Leighey House contains much of the original furniture and is the only Frank Lloyd Wright home open for regular tours in the DC metro area. SAH Archipedia tells the story of the United States through its buildings, landscapes, and cities. This freely available resource empowers the public with authoritative knowledge that deepens their understanding and appreciation of the built environment. To Wright, the interior was just as important as the construction of the building, and thus furniture and appliances were part of his vision. Today Pope-Leighey House looks much as it did when the Popes moved in 76 years ago, despite the fact that not all of its original materials remain.

Our programs, events, and interpretation foster racial justice, promote sustainable practices, nurture wellbeing, and contribute to community repair. Facilities and Capacity Couples can easily invite up to 250 guests, more if additional tenting is arraned - there is plenty of land for additional amenities. The Woodlawn spaces offer both indoor tented and uncovered outdoor options that you can choose from. Services Offered The Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House staff, in collaboration with the choice of two top quality DC-area caterers, Design Cuisine and Main Event Caterers, can help plan and host your ceremony and reception. This is a Frank Lloyd Wright design fan page inspired to showcase the famed architect's designs.

Finally, the National Trust for Historic Preservation acquired the home and relocated it to Alexandria, VA in 1965. In 1995, the house was moved once again, by just 30 feet this time, to better preserve its foundation and structural stability. The Pope-Leighey House continues to operate as a historic property and is open seasonally for public tours and private events. Also located on the property is the Pope-Leighey House, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed Usonian home.

Much of the Aquia sandstone trim had predictably weathered, and the worst conditions were patched with mortar, rather than introducing replacement stones. So following the building assessment, the National Trust began an investigation. Wilson and Audra Medve, who at the time was the preservation manager at Pope-Leighey, enlisted architectural conservators Pamela Kirschner and Andrew Fearon, along with researchers from the University of Pennsylvania, to help. They studied letters, photos, and other documentary sources to better understand the house’s materials. Kirschner conducted an in-depth comparison of products that could be used to clean and protect the wood, testing 10 different treatments and rating them for qualities such as longevity, saturation, and historical accuracy.

Officers ordered Wilson and two others in the home to hide in a back room as the gunfire was ongoing. At around 4 p.m., Wilson said it had been largely quiet for the past hour. At quarter of 5 p.m., however, Wilson said he heard additional shots and officers walking around in his backyard. Wilson described the scene as “gunfire galore,” with officers army-crawling through his backyard, hiding behind trees, and jumping around bushes.

More severe weather expected in central U.S. this week

The overall threat of severe weather Tuesday afternoon and evening will extend as far to the south as west-central Texas. "This storm will bring a reprise of severe weather, mainly in the form of high winds and hail, but also the potential for tornadoes in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa on Tuesday afternoon and evening," Rayno said. Omaha, Nebraska, may be in the middle of the threat zone. Many of the same areas that were rocked and devastated by severe weather and flash flooding in recent days may be hit again or at least under the threat of severe weather, including tornadoes. The threat of severe weather will continue from the second storm system Thursday. The threat zone will encompass much of the same areas as Tuesday and Wednesday but also extend farther to the east -- near the Mississippi River and east of the Mississippi in Illinois and Wisconsin.

East Charlotte has historically struggled with upward mobility. While this incident is isolated, recent crime has caught people's attention. Monday's tragedy happened just more than 17 years after two Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers died in the line of duty. The March 31, 2007 shooting claimed the lives of officers Jeff Shelton and Sean Clark while they tried to respond to a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex.

FORECAST: Temperatures soar before storm chances increase for festival weekend

The atmosphere was reloading Monday as the last gasp of thunderstorms pushed along the central Gulf Coast region with flooding downpours and gusty winds. Since Sunday, the group of storms has been responsible for 4-10 inches of rain and flash flooding in parts of Texas and Louisiana. Sadly, several people were killed, including an infant, in the violent storms and tornadoes from Friday to Sunday. Close to 1,000 incidents of severe weather occurred, including more than 125 tornadoes. Severe weather and the likelihood of more tornadoes will return to the central United States, spanning Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, AccuWeather meteorologists warn.

The vigil comes on the heels of the deadly shootout between law enforcement officers and a man they were trying to arrest. Four officers were killed in an exchange of gunfire with the suspect and four others were wounded. The suspect, who was being served a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, was also killed. We recognize our responsibility to use data and technology for good. We may use or share your data with our data vendors.

Many people confuse weather and climate but they are different. Weather is the conditions of the atmosphere over a short period of time, and climate is how the atmosphere is over long periods of time. Wilson said the people who lived in the home involved in the incident had lived there for “a year and change” but otherwise didn’t know them. They occasionally had backyard parties, Wilson said. You are about to report this weather station for bad data.

Hour-by-Hour Forecast for Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

Storms and the setup that are potent enough to produce tornadoes will also bring many incidents of large hail, high winds and torrential downpours. The downpours will also bring the risk of flash flooding to some areas that were spared in recent days. "The overall coverage of severe weather on Thursday may be more localized when compared to Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as that of this past Friday and Saturday," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Matt Benz said. The storms are likely to produce episodes of hail and strong winds. Charlotte, North Carolina gets 43 inches of rain, on average, per year.

That complex was located about a mile from where Monday's shooting unfolded. — As east Charlotte continues to reckon with Monday's deadly shooting along Galway Avenue, three community groups offered a chance for neighbors to join together with a prayer vigil. (WBTV) - A neighbor said dozens of law enforcement officers used his home and backyard in a shootout that happened Monday afternoon in an east Charlotte neighborhood. Charlotte gets some kind of precipitation, on average, 105 days per year. Precipitation is rain, snow, sleet, or hail that falls to the ground. In order for precipitation to be counted you have to get at least .01 inches on the ground to measure. The swath of severe weather at risk Wednesday will be nearly identical to that of Tuesday and will extend from Nebraska and Iowa southward 900 miles to near the Big Bend area of the Rio Grande River in Texas.

"We could be looking at more than a dozen tornadoes Wednesday in portions of the central and southern Plains," Rayno said. The second of the two main storms this week will eject from the central Rockies Wednesday and is forecast to pivot more slowly northward over the northern Plains and Upper Midwest Thursday. The Current Radar map shows areas of current precipitation (rain, mixed, or snow). The map can be animated to show the previous one hour of radar. Weather is how the atmosphere is behaving and its effects upon life and human activities. Most people think of weather in terms of temperature, humidity, precipitation, cloudiness, brightness, visibility, wind, and atmospheric pressure.

Please select the information that is incorrect. On average, there are 218 sunny days per year in Charlotte. Small streams and rivers surged to moderate to major flood stage as a result of rounds of heavy rain in recent days. The rainfall will result in the middle segment of the Mississippi River, reaching a minor flood stage in some areas. "Two more storm systems will affect the Central states this week," AccuWeather Chief On-Air Meteorologist Bernie Rayno said.

Along with the tornado threat, storms will pack high winds, large hail, and torrential rain that can aggravate or initiate flooding problems. Live on WBTV, Tyler Wilson described officers streaming into his home, including one officer Wilson said appeared to be a sniper using his window during an active shootout Monday afternoon. His backyard is adjacent to the backyard of the one involved in the incident, Wilson said.

How the House Voted on Foreign Aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan The New York Times

The House also voted Saturday to force TikTok’s parent company to sell it or be banned in the U.S. According to the bill, China-based ByteDance would have to sell TikTok within nine months — which the president could extend to a year — or face a nationwide ban. The policy, which would lengthen the time frame for a sale from an earlier House bill, has Senate buy-in along with Biden’s support, putting TikTok closer than ever to being banned in the U.S. The bills passed weeks after the Senate passed a mammoth bill with aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, as well as funding for border security. Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., refused to bring that bill to the floor, instead opting to pass three separate bills with aid for the three nations. Rep. Bob Good, R-Va., spoke to reporters on Capitol Hill following a foreign aid bill vote on April 19.

Finally, routine police work is handled by the United States Capitol Police, which is supervised by the Capitol Police Board, a body to which the sergeant at arms belongs, and chairs in even-numbered years. The CAO also assumed some of the responsibilities of the House Information Services, which previously had been controlled directly by the Committee on House Administration, then headed by Representative Charlie Rose of North Carolina, along with the House "Folding Room". The House began work on April 1, 1789, when it achieved a quorum for the first time. Late Friday, Schumer said the Senate was working to get unanimous agreement to move quickly to vote on the foreign aid legislation. “We are working on an agreement for consideration of the supplemental,” he said on the Senate floor. The House voted on the four bills in succession, one day after a rare and extraordinary bipartisan coalition teed up the votes, with more Democrats (165) than Republicans (151) voting for the “rule” to proceed to the measures.

Additionally, some territories may choose to also elect shadow representatives, though these are not official members of the House and are separate individuals from their official delegates. The House is one of Congress’s two chambers (the other is the U.S. Senate), and part of the federal government’s legislative branch. The committees also play an important role in the control exercised by Congress over governmental agencies. Cabinet officers and other officials are frequently summoned before the committees to explain policy. The Constitution (Article I, section 6) prohibits members of Congress from holding offices in the executive branch of government—a chief distinction between parliamentary and congressional forms of government. Most committee work is performed by twenty standing committees, each of which has jurisdiction over a specific set of issues, such as Agriculture or Foreign Affairs.

Immediately after the bill passed, ZelenskIy released a statement expressing his gratitude to both parties “and personally Speaker Mike Johnson for the decision that keeps history on the right track”. "I'm handling this the right way. I'm allowing the process to happen." On Friday, a third Republican member signed onto the effort to remove Johnson as speaker. "It comes at a moment of grave urgency, with Israel facing unprecedented attacks from Iran, and Ukraine under continued bombardment from Russia," Biden said. The president urged the Senate to quickly send it to his desk for signature.

Before the vote, former President Donald Trump issued a confusing statement that sympathized with both the pro- and anti-Ukraine aid factions of the GOP without taking a clear position. The Ukraine aid bill comes at a crucial time in the country’s war with Russia, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed the urgent need for weapons and supplies to continue defending Ukraine from Russian attacks. "I've said from the beginning I'm going to be responsible with this," Greene said.

"If we had the vote today in our conference, he would not be speaker." "If I operated out of fear of a motion to vacate, I would never be able to do my job," Johnson told reporters this week. "History judges us for what we do. This is a critical time right now." As a result of his move, Johnson could face a vote on his ouster in the coming weeks. The GOP speaker, however, has grown more willing to confront the threat from the right, and Democrats have suggested that they're willing to protect him from an ouster effort if he allowed a vote on Ukraine aid. In the two years since Russia's invasion, opposition to aiding Ukraine has grown from a fringe position to a majority view among House GOP lawmakers.

Leadership List

Some joint committees oversee independent government bodies; for instance, the Joint Committee on the Library oversees the Library of Congress. Other joint committees serve to make advisory reports; for example, there exists a Joint Committee on Taxation. Hence, the power of joint committees is considerably lower than those of standing committees. In the instance when the presidency and both Houses of Congress are controlled by one party, the speaker normally takes a low profile and defers to the president. For that situation the House minority leader can play the role of a de facto "leader of the opposition", often more so than the Senate minority leader, due to the more partisan nature of the House and the greater role of leadership. States entitled to more than one representative are divided into single-member districts.

These petty barons, some of them not a little powerful, but none of them within the reach of the full powers of rule, may at will exercise almost despotic sway within their own shires, and may sometimes threaten to convulse even the realm itself. The largest committee of the House is the Committee of the Whole, which, as its name suggests, consists of all members of the House. The Committee meets in the House chamber; it may consider and amend bills, but may not grant them final passage. Generally, the debate procedures of the Committee of the Whole are more flexible than those of the House itself. One advantage of the Committee of the Whole is its ability to include otherwise non-voting members of Congress. After the whips, the next ranking official in the House party's leadership is the party conference chair (styled as the Republican conference chair and Democratic caucus chair).

The formula for distributing seats in the House based on population favored "urbanized states" and penalized smaller rural states at the time, and Congress could not agree on a reapportionment plan. Ballotpedia features 486,932 encyclopedic articles written and curated by our professional staff of editors, writers, and researchers. Prior to the election, the Republican Party had the majority in the U.S. Republicans held 246 seats compared to Democrats' 186 seats, while three seats were vacant. The Republican Party's majority was slightly reduced in 2016, as Democrats picked up six seats. Special elections will be held during the 118th Congress to replace members of Congress who leave office for any reason.

The House is also served by several officials who are not members. The House's chief such officer is the clerk, who maintains public records, prepares documents, and oversees junior officials, including pages until the discontinuation of House pages in 2011. The clerk also presides over the House at the beginning of each new Congress pending the election of a speaker. Another officer is the chief administrative officer, responsible for the day-to-day administrative support to the House of Representatives. Speakers serve as chairs of their party's steering committee, which is responsible for assigning party members to other House committees. The speaker chooses the chairs of standing committees, appoints most of the members of the Rules Committee, appoints all members of conference committees, and determines which committees consider bills.

Taken together, they include the $95 billion aid package championed by Biden, with some changes from the version the Senate passed two months ago. WASHINGTON — The House on Saturday passed a $95 billion package that includes two long-awaited bills with $60.8 billion of aid for Ukraine and $26 billion in aid for Israel and relief for Gaza. Each portion of the package — which was broken down into separate bills — received bipartisan support.

They vote on bills, speak with constituents and other groups, and review constituent mail, press clips and various reports. Work can continue into the evening with receptions or fundraising events. Before members are assigned to committees, each committee’s size and the proportion of Republicans to Democrats must be decided by the party leaders. The total number of committee slots allotted to each party is approximately the same as the ratio between majority party and minority party members in the full chamber. Each state is guaranteed at least one member of the House of Representatives.

Glowy Skin In A Bottle: Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter

In fact, the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter has garnered so much hype that it’s getting difficult to find a bottle in stock—it’s currently sold out in all but three shades on the brand’s site. Saie is a brand that’s becoming more popular since they make products to enhance natural beauty. The Glowy Super Gel is a perfect example; like Flawless Filter, it’s a multi-purpose product, and you can use it as a primer under foundation or an illuminator over foundation. While both are ideal for all skin types, sunglow is the one that truly gives you a sunkissed glow. Because of its creamy formula, it’s especially pragmatic for those with dry skin—like Gigi Hadid, who applies it early in her makeup regimen, as documented in her Beauty Secrets. “For those with oily skin types, I recommend being more precise with application and applying Hollywood Flawless Filter where they want more of a glow,” Dalí-Trites notes.

If you want a powder alternative to Flawless Filter, I suggest trying this powder highlighter from Revlon. E.l.f. even made this with a similar doe applicator as Flawless Filter. I suggest using the applicator to apply the product to your cheekbones, chin, and forehead, and then blending it in with a Beauty Blender or brush.

You can also mix it with your foundation for a more subtle, glowy effect. Or, if you prefer less coverage, simply dab some on the high points of your face as a highlighter. Regardless, you’ll be left with a pretty, dewy finish that’s bound to earn a few compliments. Otherwise, this foundation was made as an alternative to Flawless Filter. E.l.f. calls this a liquid glow booster that you can wear alone or with foundation.

HOLLYWOOD FLAWLESS FILTER3 FAIR

Like Flawless Filter, Glowy Super Gel can also be used as a primer or illuminator, so it’s the perfect multi-purpose product if you want healthy, glowing skin. Worn alone on bare skin, it’s perfect for a no-makeup makeup look. Even though the formula is pretty sheer, it’ll add the fresh radiance we’re all after—while looking like you have nothing on. I applied it evenly all over the face with my fingers for the subtle, youthful-looking glow we all wish we woke up with, but you could also use a brush or damp sponge. It's available in 12 dreamy shades, and 3 Fair is a warm peach shade that’s perfect for light to medium skin tones. My HOLLYWOOD EFFECT glow booster in a warm peach shade for light to medium skin tones.

For example, illuminators with oil can breakout skin and cause shininess, especially for those with oily/combination skin. If you want to use Flawless Filter to give your skin a lovely glow, you can use an illuminator. Of course, there are similar foundation boosters out there if you want a glowing product to mix with your foundation. If you have dry skin, Flawless Filter offers some skincare benefits. Charlotte Tilbury promises it’s moisturizing, though doesn’t mention specific ingredients. When you mix Charlotte Tilbury’s Flawless Filter with any foundation, your skin will have the social media-perfect glow–as if you’re wearing a filter IRL.

This ingredient is also used as a preservative to extend the life of products. It is a common ingredient in many products, especially those designed to hydrate skin. The primary benefits are retaining moisture, skin softening, and promoting a healthy skin barrier.

A few months ago, I was at a family party, and as soon as I walked in, I noticed that my cousin's face was glowing. I immediately went up to her and asked what she was using to get her skin to look that way, and she laughed and told me my sister had just asked her the same thing.

The smaller bottle is just $17, so it could be a great option if you want to try the formula out before committing to the larger size. One of the benefits of Flawless Filter is it’s such a versatile product. Saturday's vote marked the first time the House had approved billions of dollars in Ukraine aid since December 2022, when Democrats still controlled the chamber. The passed bills will be combined into a single package to simplify the voting process for the Senate, which will need to reapprove the proposal before it can go to President Joe Biden’s desk for his signature. Members were voting on a package worth close to $95bn in total, but which had been broken up into four separate bills, as Johnson effectively de-coupled the vote on Ukraine from funding for Israel, which is more widely supported among both Democrats and Republicans.

Pursuant to the Uniform Congressional District Act, representatives must be elected from single-member districts. After a census is taken (in a year ending in 0), the year ending in 2 is the first year in which elections for U.S. House districts are based on that census (with the Congress based on those districts starting its term on the following January 3). As there is no legislation at the federal level mandating one particular system for elections to the House, systems are set at the state level.

Usually, these committees will make recommended changes to these pieces of legislation, before voting on whether or not to forward them to the entire House of Representatives or Senate for a vote. As a check to the power of the Speaker and Majority Leader, the Minority Leader, selected from the membership of the political party with fewer seats in the House, serves as an advocate for their party’s concerns and procedural rights. Interestingly, although the Senate is sometimes referred to as the “upper body,” and the House as the “lower body,” the two legislative bodies hold the same amount of power within the U.S. system. Both must agree to, vote on and adopt pieces of identical legislation (known as bills) in order for the legislation to become law. As outlined in the Constitution, the House represents citizens based on district populations, while the Senate represents citizens on an equal state basis. This agreement was part of what is called The Great Compromise which, in turn, led to the Permanent Seat of Government Act establishing the nation’s federal capital in Washington, DC.

Leadership and partisan balance

A majority of Republican members — 112 — voted against aid to Ukraine, with one member voting "present." Thirty-seven Democrats voted against aid to Israel. First to be voted on was a bill including legislation on border security, which failed, as expected. Many rightwing Republicans do not want the Biden administration to win credit for resolving a crisis at the US border with Mexico, where there has been an upsurge of asylum seekers, during an election year. The GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee, Donald Trump, is seeking to make the border an election issue. The Senate is set to begin considering the House-passed bill on Tuesday, with some preliminary votes that afternoon.

For federal agencies

Under Johnson's unconventional plan, the Ukraine bill will be sent to the Senate as part of a package that includes aid for Israel and Taiwan and a third bill that forces a sale of TikTok and allows the United States to confiscate Russian assets. While all Democrats voted in favor of aid to Ukraine and all but Ms. Tlaib supported funding to Taiwan, 37 left-leaning Democrats defected to vote against the Israel aid bill. They said before the vote that they opposed unfettered aid to Israel that could be used in its offensive in Gaza. The opposition to the Israel aid represented a minority of Democrats, but reflected the deep resistance to unconditional aid and the divisions in the party on Gaza. Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland represented a notable new “no” vote among Democrats, and other standouts included Representatives Donald S. Beyer Jr. of Virginia, Earl Blumenauer of Oregon and John Garamendi of California. Echoing one of the many grievances shared by hard-right Republicans who opposed all of the aid measures, Mr. Good said his support for “Israel’s right to defend itself remains unshakeable” but that he disagreed with a measure that would add to the nation’s debt.

Representatives by Party

One example of a provision repeatedly supported by the House but blocked by the Senate was the Wilmot Proviso, which sought to ban slavery in the land gained during the Mexican–American War. Conflict over slavery and other issues persisted until the Civil War (1861–1865), which began soon after several southern states attempted to secede from the Union. The war culminated in the South's defeat and in the abolition of slavery. All southern senators except Andrew Johnson resigned their seats at the beginning of the war, and therefore the Senate did not hold the balance of power between North and South during the war. Los Angeles is home to dozens of amazing progressive organizations, including powerful and grassroots civil rights, human rights, social justice groups.

Passing the bill may bring Greene one step closer to forcing a vote to remove him. Lawmakers waved Ukrainian flags and cheered upon the Ukraine bill's passage. Voting in favor were 101 Republicans and 210 Democrats, while Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Pa., voted present. House Freedom Caucus chair Bob Good, R-Va., told reporters on Friday that although he doesn't defend Johnson's performance as speaker, he thinks it's not in the interest of the Republican Party to go through another speakership fight six months before an election.

As of 2022, first-past-the-post or plurality voting is adopted in 46 states, ranked-choice or instant-runoff voting in two states (Alaska and Maine), and two-round system in two states (Georgia and Mississippi). Elected representatives serve a two-year term, with no term limit. Still, 37 “no” votes, while a break from Washington’s ironclad support for the Jewish state, fell short of the opposition bloc progressives had hoped to muster.

Leadership

"I hope they will not move forward with that," he said of the GOP trio that is sponsoring the motion to vacate resolution. "I think we ought to have a contest in November, a deliberative process to select, hopefully, the speaker of the House majority. But I don't think it'd be a wise course of action to do that now." There was speculation that Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene would trigger a motion to vacate the speaker after Saturday's vote. Greene first filed the motion to vacate resolution a month ago, in part over frustration with the speaker on how he handled a $1.2 trillion spending package. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson speaks to the press after the chamber passed a major aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan on April 20.

Also referred to as a congressman or congresswoman, each representative is elected to a two-year term serving the people of a specific congressional district. Among other duties, representatives introduce bills and resolutions, offer amendments and serve on committees. The number of representatives with full voting rights is 435, a number set by Public Law 62-5 on August 8, 1911, and in effect since 1913. The number of representatives per state is proportionate to population. The number of voting representatives in the House is fixed by law at no more than 435, proportionally representing the population of the 50 states. Currently, there are five delegates representing the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

The whip’s official role is to count potential votes for bills being debated for the party leaders. The House Majority Leader—who is also chosen from among the membership of the political party with the most seats in the House—schedules time for floor debate on legislation and sets the legislative strategy for the party in control. In the House of Representatives, the legislative schedule (which defines when bills are debated and voted upon) is set by the body’s leader, known as the Speaker of the House. The Speaker, who is chosen among the membership of the political party with the most seats in the House, establishes the legislative priorities for the body and presides over the deliberation of bills under consideration. House leadership includes the speaker, majority and minority leaders, assistant leaders, whips and a party caucus or conference. The speaker acts as leader of the House and combines several institutional and administrative roles.

The rules of the House generally address a two-party system, with a majority party in government, and a minority party in opposition. The presiding officer is the Speaker of the House, who is elected by the members thereof. Other floor leaders are chosen by the Democratic Caucus or the Republican Conference, depending on whichever party has more voting members. The Constitution empowers the House of Representatives to impeach federal officials for "Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors" and empowers the Senate to try such impeachments.

A procedural vote to get it to the floor was , with 165 Democrats and 151 Republicans supporting the motion. This bill of Republican priorities for the U.S.-Mexico border requires a two-thirds vote to pass, unlike the other bills, which require a simple majority. These differences have lessened over the years, but representatives elected to the House tend to be more engaged in the districts and communities they represent.

Federal law, passed on Aug. 8, 1911, determines how many members are in the House of Representatives. That measure raised the number of representatives to 435 from 391 because of population growth in the United States. When the presidency and Senate are controlled by a different party from the one controlling the House, the speaker can become the de facto "leader of the opposition". Some notable examples include Tip O'Neill in the 1980s, Newt Gingrich in the 1990s, John Boehner in the early 2010s, and Nancy Pelosi in the late 2000s and again in the late 2010s and early 2020s.

The number of representatives each state gets in the House of Representatives is based on population. That process, known as reapportionment, occurs every 10 years after the decennial population count conducted by the U.S. The number of seats in the House was expanded to 105 members after the 1790 Census, and then to 142 members after the 1800 headcount. The law that set the current number of seats at 435 took effect in 1913.

Burwood beach is a picture-perfect beach located some 10 minutes away from the pier near the Blue waters resort.
